Pastel & Charcoal Portraits Made from Your Pictures
Why commission a portrait?
There are myriad reasons to have a portrait made from a photograph, which is a lovely form of homage because it is meant to capture the whole spirit of the subject in a one-of-a-kind rendition.
Even the most professional photograph of a loved one doesn't quite stir up the same emotions as a hand-painted portrait. That unique touch an artist will add to your favorite picture enhances in a very unique and intimate way the personal feelings and memories evoked by the subject.
By having a photo turned into an original work of art, you will find yourself with a piece of heirloom value, as well as a focal point for the room and a great conversation piece for relatives and other guests.
Many occasions lend themselves to the commission of a beautiful portrait. Whether it is created for the birth of a new baby, a wedding, birthday, anniversary, a grown child's college graduation, a housewarming party, or "just because", such a unique keepsake as a professionally painted portrait is guaranteed to be a touching gift its recipient will cherish forever.
While rush orders are generally possible, the commission process can be a bit complex. Two months' time from initial inquiry to wall-hanging makes the experience stress-free.
If you live in the San Diego area, for a living subject--human or pet--and if the portrait is not intended to be a surprise, I suggest that we set up a meeting with them so I can get a better idea of who they are and what they look like in real life.
We will decide together the piece's size, medium, style, paper color, background design, and I will email two progress pictures (only of the preliminary sketch and final stage of coloring) if you request them. You should allow enough time for potential touch-ups upon completion and for having the portrait framed after you receive it.
Again, if you made up your mind about commissioning a portrait a bit close to the occasion for which you need it, I may be able to offer expedited execution. Nonetheless, try and save yourself some trouble by inquiring early. Having a portrait painted should be an exciting event, not a source of stress!
